Whitney Watriss is the Director of Smithsonian Organization and Audience Research. She has specialized in organizational studies focused on strengthening the Smithsonian's leadership, management, and operations. The work has included organizational assessments; strategic and other planning; large system change; program design and evaluation; design and facilitation of group activities; and policy formulation and analysis. Before coming to the Smithsonian, Ms. Watriss worked as a consultant at the National Academy of Public Administration (policy and organizational studies); US Agency for International Development (evaluation of health care programs); and AFRICARE (evaluation of health care programs); federal University Year for Action (program design); and U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps (development and implementation of family programs requiring organizational systems and culture change). She has a BA in Latin American Studies from Harvard University, MS in Urban Development from Columbia University, and MS in Organization Development from American University.
