Kathy Ernst is a Senior Social Science Analyst in the Office of Policy and Analysis (OP&A). Since joining the Smithsonian in 2000, she has led or been a team member on numerous pan-institutional studies aimed at improving organizational effectiveness including studies of collections management, exhibition development, interdisciplinary research, advisory boards, and partnerships. Kathy has facilitated strategic planning with many Smithsonian units as well as international museums. Since the early 2000s she has been involved in developing institutional metrics to track performance and demonstrate results of major programs. At that time, she led the effort to establish the Smithsonian’s first set of performance metrics in response to the Government Performance and Results Act, and created the Regents Report of institutional highlights. She currently oversees the Smithsonian Dashboard and other organization performance-related data collection and reporting platforms. Kathy holds a BA in English and a Masters in Public Administration and Policy.
